Past Paul Williams Annual Scholarship Winner: Billy J
The Paul Williams Annual Scholarship is a $1,000 award presented each year at the Scituate High School Awards and Scholarship Presentation Night.
Paul Williams was a student at Scituate High School and a member of the boys’ basketball program. He tragically passed away in 2003. Since then, for over twenty years, a scholarship in his name has been awarded to a graduating senior selected by the school’s guidance counselors, teachers, and administration.
Recipients are chosen first and foremost for being good citizens—individuals respected not only at the high school but throughout the Scituate community. Additional criteria include meeting all graduation requirements, whether through day or night coursework, and pursuing a trade or technical degree, as Paul had planned. He had a passion for working with cars and once spoke with great excitement about owning his own repair garage.
This scholarship is not about basketball. It is about character, commitment, and honoring the memory of a young man who left a lasting impression. I am humbled to be involved in this annual award and grateful to Paul’s mother, Mary, for allowing me to take part.
Sincerely,
