Shown below is a segment of a thank-you letter printed in the 1925 Scituate High School Chimes yearbook from the SHS student body to the town electorate that voted in 1924 to not only allocate the funds required to have both girls and boys basketball teams for the 1924-25 season, but also permitted the use of the town hall as a practice facility and home game site. As of now, I have not found a photo of this first SHS team, but did find one of the 1925-26 team. I will keep looking. Interestingly one of the biggest expenses based on my research was the cost of firewood to heat the hall. Part of the arrangement with the town was that both teams had to agree to clean the town hall after town meetings which included sweeping the floors and the emptying of spittoons.

Like many of the photos shown below, not all of my research in regard to Scituate High School basketball program's past coaches is clear, but research is ongoing and will be done. As new information is found, I will update the website. From my research I did ascertain that a "team manager" Edgar Hyland was elected by the town's athletic committee, but never referred to as "coach" for the 1924-25 inaugural season. Recognize Coach Ed Stewart's decades long contribution to not just Scituate High School basketball, but to our country. Coach Stewart was called into military service to serve our country during World War II. Coach Stewart - Thank You!

The attachments above contain individual player's, overall team statistics and team records from 2000 - 2023. Individual and team statistics prior to 2000 unfortunately have proven to be allusive. If there are alumni who have statistics prior to 2000 please forward to me. Please Note: Over Analysis of individual and team statistics causes athletic Paralysis. Heart Matters - Not Stats. Statistics matter, but stats DO NOT reveal character or the entire story. Don’t suffer from paralysis by analysis. Use Stats, trust people and don’t mix that up. Heart matters most, work hard always, play hard always. Make the winning effort and the score will take care of itself.
THERE IS PLENTY OF SPACE ON BOTTOM OF THIS BANNER!
Tom Cuddihy graduated in 2004 finishing his career as the school's leading scorer with 1,879 points. In 2005 he received his #33 game jersey in honor of his breaking of the school scoring record and the promise that no one would ever wear his number again at SHS. After graduating from SHS Tom scored over 1500 points at Bridgewater State University. Tom and his father Tom, Senior regularly attend Scituate High basketball games. Thank you Tom for all of your work! You inspired a generation of players!
